The Great American 5-Day & 5-Night 
Utah Photography & Timelapse Workshop

First time being offered, this 5-day and night photography and timelapse workshop will take you on a journey to some of the most breathtaking locations in Utah.    This workshop was designed for photographers, and the itinerary designed to take you to amazing southwest desert landscapes of Southern Utah to learn and create.

 

Our workshop will focus on landscape and astro landscape photography & timelapse, and our afternoons and evenings will be filled with locations that will allow you to capture breathtaking landscapes in late afternoon and evening, and under some of the darkest skies in the world.    

Locations include Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef, Canyonlands, Arches, Goblin Valley, Dead Horse Point, and more.

Join professional photographer and time lapse specialist Ron Risman for this 5-day landscape photography and astro timelapse workshop.  This is an intensive and advanced workshop with daily classroom and on-location shooting & instruction. You will come away with extensive knowledge on how to best compose, capture, and post-process professional quality images and timelapse films.  You

TRAVELING TO MOAB

 

Moab Utah is located just 90 minutes from Grand Junction, CO or 4 hours from Salt Lake City, UT. All major airlines fly into Salt Lake City. Car rentals are less expensive and plentiful in Salt Lake compared to Grand Junction.  Moab is also home to Canyonlands Airport for those who wish to fly to and from Denver.

 

Plan on arriving into Moab on May 31st as our workshop will start the next morning at 11:30 a.m. 

AUTHORIZED & PERMITTED

 

Our workshops are approved by the National and State Parks where we conduct business. We carry permits and proper safety certifications and insurance for each workshop.  

CANCELLATIONS & TRAVEL INSURANCE

 

Our registrations help us to plan our itineraries and bring in extra professional assistance as required. Refunds are available through January 30th, 2017. If a cancellation request comes in after January 30th we are only to honor refunds if your spot is used to fill a spot on our waiting list.

We recommend that participants obtain travel / trip cancellation insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances that require the cancellation of the workshop or your participation in the workshop.   Please refer to our terms & conditions.

A Workshop Like No Other
 

We only accept 12 photographers for this workshop in order to make sure that everyone gets our personal attention and allows us to keep a 6:1 teacher/photographer ratio.

 

Unlike many workshop "tours" that have you tag along with a photographer while he/she captures images, answering questions in between - our workshops are all about your experience.  In class you have our undivided attention, and in the field our instructors are there to help you learn - not shoot.  Only after everyone is set up and shooting do the instructors set up their own cameras.

Canyonlands National Park offers some of the darkest skies in the country and was named a gold-tier night sky park by the International Dark-Sky Association, an honor reserved for the darkest of dark skies and the most stunning of starscapes.

 

If you love the colors and open skies of the American Southwest you'll absolutely fall in love with Moab, Utah.   Moab is not only home to Arches & Canyonlands National Park, it is also home to Dead Horse Point State Park and almost 2 million acres of breathtaking canyons carved by the Colorado and Green Rivers. 

 

From red rock arches, spires, and mesas - to the snow capped La Sal Mountain Range - Moab has amazing vista's everywhere you look.  This is truly a photographer's paradise and we'll be taking you to the some of the best locations in and around Moab.

ITINERARY

 

The workshop is held at the Gonzo Inn in the heart of downtown Moab.   The Gonzo Inn is one of best places to stay in all of Moab and is convenient to shops, restaurants, and dining. Participants will receive our group discount at the Gonzo Inn, but you may stay or camp anywhere you prefer.

 

The first day of the workshop will start with a meet & great, followed by our first of five classroom sessions and on-location shoots. 
Each subsequent day will start off with classroom sessions before we break for a late lunch / early dinner. Classroom sessions will cover shooting and post-processing techniques and will also be used to pre-setup our gear for our nightly shoots.  You'll learn how and when to use motion control dollies & heads, the different methods used to capture day-to-night "holy grail" transitions, and much more.
 

After a late lunch we'll head out to that evenings shoot location - giving us plenty of time to scout and shoot daylapses and day-to-night timelapses   Daily locations are chosen based on weather & sky conditions.  Location options include Goblin Valley, Dead Horse Point State Park, Double Arch, North & South Windows, Balanced Rock, MESA Arch, Broken Arch, Canyon Overlook, Fisher Towers, Corona Arch, La Sal Mountains, and more.

 

You'll learn how to combine advanced shooting techniques such as day-to-night 'exposure-ramping' and HDR capture with motion control in order to create smooth, professional 3 and 4-axis timelapses that will help to set your work apart.  You will also learn the best tools to use to scout for the best locations before arriving to your destination; post-production workflow; music selection;
tips & tricks; and more.

 

REGISTRATION & PAYMENT

 

Registration for our 5-Night workshop is $1995.  A 50% desposit ($997.50) will reserve your spot in the workshop.  The remaining balance will be due no later than February 1st, 2017.   We limit space in each of our workshops in order to offer more personalized instruction.  Early registration is highly recommended as all of our past workshops have sold out.
