Learn to Capture the Night Sky

Join Timelapse Workshops for our second adventure workshop on Lake Powell.    Last year's trip was only made available to workshop Alumni, but for 2019 we wanted to open up this incredible photographic opportunity to everyone.   Since we still only have the same amount of space available, this trip WILL sell out.  Register early in order to grab your spot.

Kayaking on this trip is not requirement, but we will have them available for anyone that wishes to kayak on the lake or into slot canyons.  Trust me when I say that you do not need ANY kayak experience to enjoy it. There will also be a few two person kayaks if you feel more comfortable going with someone more experienced or prefer someone else to paddle while you photograph.

This adventure workshop is unlike any other you have experienced.

By camping along the lake we'll be spending our nights under some of the darkest skies anywhere on earth, while allowing our cameras to capture all the way through from sunset to sunrise - with moon strikes in between.    The incredible canyon walls, and reflections off the water will provide for unique images for licensing as well as your portfolio.    But beyond the photography, the trip itself will create a memory that you won't soon forget.

By day we'll navigate into slot canyons  and coves - on foot and in kayaks. The majority of these canyons can only be seen by small water craft, and with nearly 2,000 miles of shoreline, endless sunshine, warm water, perfect weather, and some of the most spectacular scenery in the west, Lake Powell is the ultimate playground for photographers.

You'll learn basic and advanced timelapse photography techniques with a mix of classroom sessions and on-locaiton shooting - all while being on or at the edge of one the most spectacular lakes anywhere on earth.  Lake Powell is 186 miles in length and features 96 side canyons.  With the combination of the red rock canyon walls, camping, & photography - this is guaranteed to be one of the most exciting learning experiences.

This workshop is open to photographers and cinematographers of all skill levels.   You'll come away from this workshop with extensive knowledge on how to control your camera and compositions, how to capture and process bracketed images, how to best use filters to control the look and feel of your images, and how to best capture professional quality timelapses using your DSLR, Mirrorless camera, or Smartphone.

Cancellations & Travel Insurance

Due to the nature of this trip and the committment we must make to our guides your reservation is non-refundable.  With only 10 spots available we will make every effort to try to find a replacement in the event of an emergency, but this cannot be guaranteed.  We suggest that you purchase travel insurance to cover cancellation expenses, trip interruption, baggage loss, and accidents. We recommend CSA Travel Protection.

We also highly recommend that you have adequate medical/evacuation insurance, as you are responsible for any health and medical costs incurred.

Incredibly Dark Skies

This workshop takes place during the week leading up to the new moon. This was chosen in order to give us hours of truly dark skies with an early morning moon rise a few hours before sunrise.   The moonless skies before 1 a.m. will allow us to capture millions of stars and the core of the Milky Way, while the early morning moon will help to light up the canyon with just enough light for beautiful night images without washing out the Milky Way.
